The Making of Sense

Little Picbook Theory (or the Making of Sense)

It’s not only letters. It’s not a whole movie. A Picbook is in between: Letters + pictures + music.

It does not want to be a movie, because it appreciates to play around and not to be finished. Open your head and let them have fun together. It’s a toy box.

When I do a Picbook, I enjoy the little surprises and experiences while the “mechanism of the language” (a term I learned from Ferdinand de Saussure – I bow down to this great scientist) does its work. “Ahhh … That’s the way my brain works … This thought leads to that picture … and this picture leads to that thought”.

How does your brain work? Find it out by doing a Picbook. And be prepared for a result, that brings you to the point, that reduces your idea to “the max”. That’s what always happens, when you write: Decisions among possible associations are happening and making you become more yourself. You see who you are at the moment or whom you don’t want to be, while you get new offers for your self out of the world of signs (words, pictures, sounds, …) for free.

Investment: time. Revenue: Recognition and fun.

The interesting question is: Who does the work? It happens … and sometimes you can see, where the significant/signifying elements come from. When the direction feels good: Go for it! And enjoy the adventure of the making of sense.
